the reason

Why own a villa in Bali?
With recent events in Bali, including the October 2005 bombing, you may well ask this question. As I see it, here are the reasons:

  • Bali is regularly voted as one of the world’s favourite tourist destinations. This popularity is well deserved. For its size, very few other locations offer the cultural riches, natural beauty, charm and mystique of Bali and its people. The tropical climate, stunning landscapes, friendly people and well developed hospitality industry attract millions of visitors every year. Many are attracted to return, stay for longer periods and even seek to own a piece of the ‘Island of the Gods’ themselves. This project gives you the chance to do so.
  • A Balinese villa gives owners and their guests an ideal place to stay long or short term with all the benefits of a private home which reflects individual owners needs and tastes combined with the facilities and services offered by star rated hotels
  • Your villa, if marketed successfully, can provide a worthwhile monetary return from rental income. The individual features of each villa plus the common facilities are attractive to singles, couples and families and with a number of villas for rent in the same complex, group events such as family reunions, alumni gatherings, retreats, business meetings, seminars, courses and other learning experiences can all be hosted.
  • Land and property values in Bali have been increasing steadily in value and this trend should continue so that a Bali villa is a solid investment whose capital value is retained over time.
  • For security, it seems that areas away from the main beach tourist centres of Kuta, Sanur, Nusa Dua and Jimbaran are safest. The location of the villa complex inland in a quiet and isolated area maximizes security and safety.

Why am I building such a villa complex in Bali?
The short answer is Bali is a beautiful place to have a villa (I own one!), I believe others want to own one too and I believe I can build them at affordable prices based on my previous expertise and experience. Having seen the building of large numbers of villas and villa complexes in Bali over recent years and as an ongoing activity, I have decided to develop a complex myself. This may seem strange given that the market appears to be getting a little “crowded” and the security situation has been compromised. To some extent these two possible drawbacks are true. Certain locations-mainly near the beaches-and price ranges-mid to top end-are being offered in considerable numbers. With the recent bombing, security in these beach areas is being questioned. The villa complex I plan addresses all these three issues.

  • Firstly, I believe that there are a number of potential villa owners who want a different experience of Bali away from crowded and touristy beach locations.
  • Secondly, in locations away from the beaches land is generally cheaper and this is reflected in villa prices which I want to be affordable.
  • Thirdly, by building the complex in a quiet, rural area away from the mass market, built up beach areas, I believe security and safety concerns are addressed.

Besides price savings, by choosing a location away from the beaches, Villa Gunung owners will experience a different-and I believe more interesting-location to live in and use as a base for exploring and enjoying Bali’s cultural riches and natural beauty while still being within an easy drive of beaches, shopping and other island attractions.

I am not a professional property developer and will not be making the same profit margins they expect. However I have considerable experience gained over a number of years in designing, building and managing my own hotel and villa in Bali. I also have invaluable connections to suppliers of a wide range of materials, equipment and services which will save all villa owners money. My knowledge and experience will be used extensively in the Villa Gunung project and will directly benefit all villa owners.

As a long term resident of Indonesia-I have lived here for 23 years-I intend to remain living here for the foreseeable future and am committed to responsibly managing the Villa Gunung complex once completed. My 10 years plus experience in building, owning and managing my own small hotel in Bali will be put to use in doing so.
